Just a quick post to introduce myself! I'm Beth, was [livejournal.com profile] purpleparadox over on LJ and jumped ship back in April '09, when I got an invite to be in DW's closed beta. I'd been rather annoyed with Livejournal for a while at that point (what with the whole ad-supported crap and the Strikethrough mess), and when I got the opportunity to be here, I jumped on it. I'd been on Livejournal since 2001, and it was hard to leave, but after this whole Live-Twit-Face crap, I'm glad I left.

If any other refugees want to be friends with me, just go ahead and add me! I love meeting new people. :D

Well, I've just deleted my two little-used LJ accounts, left the main one intact but completely f-locked, cancelled my auto-renewal, and taken every possible bit of personal information out of my profile.

So, by the warm glow of my burning bridges, I want to search out some communities for artists over here. I like to post images and I need to know what's a safe host to use, since currently I can't upload to DW from my desktop (and yes, I know they're working on that, and it makes me happy).

I've just learned that my Photobucket account is infested with Facebugs and will probably need to be ditched, so.  Anyone got some suggestions for safer options?

I just figured out that DW will let you import content from more than one journal to your account here. It just integrates everything into your existing account, if that's what you want to do.

I had a smaller, secondary account I didn't use much but wanted to archive.  Imported it right in, icons and privacy settings and all, no problem.

The only thing I noticed is that DW doesn't do anything to mark which posts came from which journal, so if you need to track things easily, you'll want to tag your secondary journal posts before you import.  Losing the distinction wasn't a problem for me, fortunately.

I'm not sure if it's possible in LJ to do a mass-edit on tags, as I've never tried it, but it might be worth looking at.  It's just nice to know I didn't need a second journal here to import my second journal from there.

Hey there, fellow LJ refugees!

[personal profile] chasethecloudsaway and I are thinking of starting a Discworld fan community, and we were wondering how many people would be interested in joining/helping out. I've met quite a few Discworld fans via various DW friending memes, and a lot of them seem pretty sad that there's no central fan comm for them to meet other fans, hang out, squee together, share fanworks and so on. I would be happy to start one up, as would [personal profile] chasethecloudsaway, but there's no point if we don't have any interested people.

So, what do you think? Is this something you'd be interested in, or do you know people who'd be interested in it? Please let us know. :)

ETA: It seems as though there's a high interest level after all! I think we'll go ahead and make the comm - once we figure out a name for it, of course.

Wow.

Well, I just deleted all my LJ accounts except the most recent. Even the one I started on LJ with.

I have to admit, it's kinda bittersweet to be leaving. LJ was my home on the internet for a long time. At first, it was like a nice, shiny-new apartment complex with all sorts of cool people living there. And everyone was nice to everyone else, and the landlord was cool. Now, the place is run down, nasty, and the landlord's a jerk who won't fix the leaky sink and keeps raising the rent and lets noisy obnoxious people party all night long.

It's sad. My journals there have seen me through a lot of rough times. However, all the entries are here, and safe, and I'm happy here at Dreamwidth.

How many others got rid of their journals? How'd you guys feel about it? Sad, indifferent, happy to give LJ the virtual finger?

Okay, so far I like Dreamwidth except for one thing. It's missing an active creepy community (think ONTD_Creepy on LiveJournal). Is anyone (besides me) interested in forming a new Dreamwidth community that focuses on creepy stuff? Or even making a version of ONTD_Creepy if that's the formula we like?
