*Waves*

I used to post on LiveJournal a lot. But, I stopped around the time I discovered Tumblr. Then I made the mistake of trying to read my LiveJournal from the beginning and it was all very cringey; which led to me deleting it on a whim…

So, I tried starting a new one. However, I wasn't feeling it. When I found this site, and started posting, I felt it again. Now I'm looking to expand my friend list. Anything you want to know about me is there on my profile and in my journal

Migrated from LJ for good in 2017, and am looking for new stuff to read and to communites to join.

Hey all,

I am one of those people who got on Dreamwidth in 2009 and pretty much just used it as a backup for my LJ until the servers went to Russia in early 2017.

Here are some details about myself:
- ENBY
- American, Leftist/Democratic Socialist
- Pretty fannish. Primary fandoms are Blade Runner, The Matrix, and Tron. My favorite authors are: William Gibson, Michael Moorcock, Elaine Cunningham, and Mercedes Lackey.
- I still remember the old days of the internet 1.0, where engagement usually meant having to know basic web development skills; and I'm trying to brush up on those in order to start getting into the development end of things.

That's pretty much it. Nice to meet you all!

Good Morning!

Hello!

I'm Dusky. I came over from LJ a long time ago - back when Strikethrough was going about - but remade an account here to better suit my current personality. I'm extremely reclusive/private and introverted (even typing this is terrifying me), but the reason I am posting is because... well.

I'd like some journals to read!

I'll be bluntly honest here with who I am so you all know who I am and so you can decide if you'd like me reading your journals:

More under the Cut )

If you don't mind me reading your journal, just drop a comment! It doesn't have to be mutual either.

Thank you, and have a nice day!

Hello!

Hi there! My name is Janie, and I thought I'd make a post here as a sort of Wanted poster for DW friends! I was a big fan of LJ back in the day (used it from 2003 until 2012 when things tailed off for a variety of reasons) and I've really missed the LJ flist vibe ever since. DW definitely feels like the nicest place around offering anything similar to that, but I only know one or two other users and communities (where I remember meeting most of my LJ friends, or in comments on other people's journals) seem pretty slow.

So let's give this a go instead! I'm a bit of an old hippie, in my mid-thirties and British, big fan of tea (of course), books, crafting, journalling in all formats, nature, paganism, tarot, and animals. I live with my partner and our cat, am attempting to grow vegetables and cultivate a wild meadow in our garden, read all the time and am trying to get back into decent writing habits (creative and journal-wise). Technically I'm an academic in English Literature; in reality I am unemployed and unsure what I want to do with myself other than grow herbs and read.

If anyone out there misses the old LJ spirit and thinks we might get along, please feel free to add me! I'll make you a virtual cuppa and do my best to be a good commenter as in days past :)

(Oh, and fandom wise - there's a small list of things I'm into in my profile but I'm not active anywhere, and I'm not sure I want to be at the moment, but I never find fandom geekery offputting and am always up for chatting about the things I love!)

Hope to meet some of you lovely folk soon!

Making friends

In adding a new friend here recently it finally hit me why I feel like there's less community since moving to DW from LJ. On LJ I didn't simply have a big list (I didn't really, maybe 30 active users tops.) I had a list of people who were also friends with each other. There would be comments with each other on multiple posts, conversations would carry over from journal to journal, and everyone was friendly with all involved. It was the written form of standing in your favorite coffee shop with some of your closest friends, and you'd all grown up together!

So, I propose a friending-thread where I not only invite you to be my friend, but you also friend each other! Point to this entry on your own journals so others can join and maybe we can get a good tight-knit group of interconnected people started? Or, if this idea already exists in other communities and threads, would you mind sharing various friending links?

Hi, I’m Ayana and fairly new to DW. 15 Years ago or so I was an avid user of LJ (known as tiogardubh and later on as dontlickit). I tried returning to LJ but it’s just not the same anymore, I miss a certain vibe.
Anyway, since I’m starting over and lost sight of all my former buddies on LJ I am hoping to find some new people to connect with here.

I’m from The Netherlands (my journal is written in English), I enjoy drawing, painting, bullet journaling, Photoshop and webdesign (although I haven’t been practicing the last two in a while due to lacking a laptop but I recently got a new one as a gift). I’m also keen on watching Netflix (Peaky Blinders, The Blacklist, How to get away with Murder, etc.)

I have a son who will turn 4 this April and own a Staffy mix named Diesel. I have a complicated living situation with my ex (my son’s father) as we still live in the same house but I am looking for a new place. I’m struggling with depression, have been for most of my life, but I don’t post about it much, unless no one else will listen.

Stuff I’m likely to post in my journal: Art, bullet journal spreads and stuff, pictures, updates on my life and maybe in the future graphics I made but that depends on the spare time I have next to my other stuff haha.

I guess that’s me, feel free to add me or drop a comment!

New Arrival

::steps off the rusty grey refugee ship СС Ливейоурнал, with bag over shoulder::

Hello all. I have just arrived here, still figuring things out. Thought I'd say hi though. I am known as Emo-Snal back in the old country. I'm a professional beekeeper from California now living in an adorable little village on the southern edge of Australia on the verge of a temporate rainforest. I live alone with a pet basil plant named Theodora and there's an awesome cat that people misconstrue as my pet but really he isn't and I'm not just saying that. He just loves to hang out with me. We're BFFs.

I use both

I'm still on LiveJournal, but I prefer Dreamwidth because it looks the same as it did years ago. Add me, yeah?

Moving images?

Hey there,

I've got a question I'm hoping someone might have some insight into! I previously hosted my fandom manips on LJ and hotlinked them on DW, but now I'd like to get them off LJ entirely. However, I also use the LJ images to post into Archive of Our Own.

When I try to link to dreamwidth hosted images on Ao3, they only show up intermittently or not at all. I've heard some talk that DW hosted images can only be used on DW, does anyone know if that's true?

If that's the case, what is everyone else using for their non-LJ fandom image hosting needs?

PSA

Anyone who wants to delete their LiveJournal account but doesn't want to have to accept the new LJ Terms of Service to do so, there is a workaround that I stumbled upon through trial and error.

So give this a try and let me know if it works for you.

If you have the AdBlock extension on Google Chrome:
AdBlock > Options
Customize AdBlock
Manually edit your filters (click "Edit")

(copy & paste what's below into the text field)

livejournal.com##H3[class="flatblue-header"]
livejournal.com##HEADER[class="flatblue-head"]
livejournal.com##DIV[class="flatblue-body"]
livejournal.com##DIV[class="b-fader"]

(click "Save")
Now log in to your LiveJournal account and go here to delete it: http://www.livejournal.com/accountstatus/

You're welcome.

New here

So, I just moved over here from LJ.

I usually use Dreamwidth for roleplaying purposes, but after the....shall we say....shenanigans that Livejournal has been doing as of late, I decided it was time to pack my things and move.

 So....hi...?

Anyone seen any new 'friending' memes lately?

I see one down a few entries from 2015..... as I seem to be (finally( making the move here official, I'd love to re-energize with some new folks....

A bulk post shredding tool for LJ

As a visual protest, I wrote a tool that bulk-shreds the contents of an LJ.

In case anybody wishes to join me, I have shared the tool. ljshred@github | just the script. You'll need Python 2.7. Command-line only. No warranty. Use at own risk. May contain nuts.

I may or may not delete my LJ now that I have run this, but for the time being you can see the effect over on http://crazyscot.livejournal.com/ .

Link to: Dreamwidth Starter Kit

Hi! I've made a Dreamwidth Starter Kit, which is a compilation of tutorials and links and various persuasive meta I've found about DW by clicking around a lot. I figured that with the recent massive move, it might be useful to have all these things in one place.

Also appreciating links to any tutorials/guides/etc. that I may have missed!

(Some links on the list are really old though and may be outdated - let me know.)

How to Move to Dreamwidth and Like It

Hello all,

When LJ moved their servers to Russia, I wrote a post called How to Move to Dreamwidth and Like It with my accumulated advice and resources on making the switch and a heavy dollop of pep-talk and getting in the right frame of mind. Now with the Terms of Service debacle, it occurred to me that I should share it a little more widely than my circle.

When I wrote the post, I was operating under the assumption that most people would and should move in small stages, so the post is structured to support that. Now, I will admit that my basic advice has shifted to 'abandon ship as soon as possible,' but hopefully people still find it useful : )

As I imagine most of the people who really need this are not (yet) part of this comm, please feel free to share with anyone who you think could benefit.

Incoming!

LJ's Russian overlords have changed the TOS - and the new official version is only in Russian. The short synopsis: They're making a lot of changes tied into Russian law about online content. Adult content ratings, liability for comments on your blog, etc. Oh, and they've hyped up the advertising.

Lots of people talking about backing up their journals and moving to DW; some are going to IJ. Many journal deletions and lockdowns.

So, new people... welcome? DW has been slow but it's very friendly, and it's run by fannish people who want us to enjoy our time here.

Get ready for a flood of anon/kink memes

LJ has managed to break anonymous commenting by making its new captchas unusable. Support requests (several of them) say the problem has been reported to the devs, but this is likely to be the final straw for many people.

Also, there seems to be something wrong with comment editing in communities, but that's not likely to get people to abandon LJ in swarms.
