Hello,

I have waited a while to get a DW invite code---it's great there are so many folks willing to donate them.

I didn't see this addressed in the "new from LJ" guide, so if someone could explain this to me, I'd appreciate it.

My journal imported fine. The journal overall is set for "suitable for everyone", with the appropriate fic entries marked adult.

I have a small summary before the cut tag. When I view my entries while logged in, the summary before the cut shows up just fine. But if I view the entry anonymously, nothing shows in the entry except an "adult content" warning.

Is there a way on DW to show the summary before the content warning? I always figure someone would like to know that they're actually going to *want* to read the fic before making them jump through hoops to get to it.

Thanks,
Jaye

Well, it's been an interesting week for [former] Livejournal users, to say the least! I started this community after seeing person after person on the epic [livejournal.com profile] news post comments say that they were heading over to Dreamwidth, even though they were sad about leaving friends and communities behind. I figured that if people were really going to leave and make it stick, we'd need a support structure on the other side.

[community profile] lj_refugees now has 225 members! Seriously, my mind is boggled. Thanks to everyone who has joined up, participated, and/or spread the word about this comm. Obviously, it would be nothing without you (wow, that was so sappy)!

Obviously with more members comes more activity, so I thought it would be a good idea to put up a poll to gauge members' feelings about several things. The last thing I want this community to become is a nuisance, so if people feel as if they're getting spammed, I'd really like to know.

This poll will be open until next Monday (September 13th)

Some things I hope to do this week:
  • Locate a new layout. I chose this one on the fly, and now I'm thinking a different one might work better.
  • Create a sticky post with quick reference links for new DW users.
  • Work on a FAQ post.
Once again, thank you, and stay awesome!

Hi *waves*

So after following the 10,000 + comments over on LJ News and LJ Releases I thought I'd head over here and see about makin' friends.

This username [personal profile] lexusnexus  is one of my 2 new DW accounts.  This one is for private personal posts (nice alliteration, huh?)  and my other one is for fandom rants and fanfic.  Most of it is set to private until I find out where I can post stuff.

So can any of you fine people tell me where would be a good place to start posting my fanfics, or find other members of my fandom?

Oh, should probably mention my Fandom is SPN and J2 in all thier slashy glory.  *G*

Thank ya much!

I joined LJ in late June 2001.

In that time, my blog has garnered a thousand followers, both for the weird news aggregation I do for fun, and for news on my online comics.

No changes in the past have really honked me off at LJ. But this? This eats a bag of dicks.

My paid account expires in March over at LJ. If DW is just as good as LJ was, for a period of 5 days, I will get a paid sub here, and then use my LJ to only post pictures of deformed penises with the LJ logo on them.

Because I am a grown-up.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to ask technical questions, but I'm trying to re-find a link to an addon for Firefox that allowed you to manage multiple Livejournal and Dreamwidth logins, eg. for roleplay, and switch between them easily. Now that I'm posting over here and wrangling personal and fanfic journals on both sites it'd be useful, but I'm hanged if I can find the LJ post where I saw it! Anyone know the thing I'm talking about?

I know, fandom's a lot of fun.  But Dreamwidth isn't only about fandom!  So let's spread some love.  Here are my favorite non-fannish DW communities--comment with yours!

[site community profile] dw_nifty : all the cool features about Dreamwidth that you might not otherwise find out about.

[community profile] fucking_meds : a place for people to complain (and share information about) meds they're on.
[community profile] actyourwage : so, we're all feeling the pinch, right?  This is a place to share hints on how to live within a budget.  It's about taking control of your finances and strategies for money saving and getting out of debt
[community profile] asperger
[community profile] homeeconomics101 : Tips and tricks regarding cleaning/budgeting/cooking...
[community profile] napowrimo : the DW com for National Poetry Writing Month.  Dead for now, but wait until next April.
[community profile] poetry : A community for sharing published poetry.  (I.e. your favorite stuff to read that you'd like to share, not stuff you wrote yourself.  Though I'm sure there's a com out there for poetry writing, too.)

Some of these are kind of quiet, but that may change with the influx of new people.  What about you guys?

Hey there

I've been here a while, and thought I ought to drop in and say hi, and give you a few useful links. Mostly related to layouts/themes.

So, you've got this new journal or community and the first thing you want to do is change it's look - make it yours. If you're from Live Journal, things are a little different. But once you get your hands under the hood, so to speak, it can also be fairly easy.

Here are some layout communities that can help you either choose new themes, or fix up your own.

[livejournal.com profile] grrliz runs [community profile] dreamwidthlayouts, a place where designers can submit new designs that override Dreamwidth's current layouts/themes. That's the most active community.

Then in the help section, there's [community profile] stylemakers, begun by [profile] 900degress to aid designers with their work, and to provide resources. Check it out. As well, there is [community profile] the_style_kit where you can obtain a working copy of Tabula Rasa so you can work offline while you design. [community profile] style_system is an official community to discuss the style system, as well as to to give tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your journal. Don't just look at the first few entries of all these communities - check them out fully.

[personal profile] stepps has a great list of links here, if you are so inclined. In includes communities you may want to check out, divided by use and interest. The WIKI is also a rich source of information, including lists of communities that have been added to Dreamwidth. [personal profile] zvi wrote a HOWTO use the styles wizard, but that may or may not already be in the FAQ already. Don't be afraid of the FAQ. It has been totally re-written from the ground up to make sense. Check it out and find out for yourself.

Aaaand: The Delicious Dreamwidth Tag is a great way to keep track of what people are, well, keeping track of.

Finally: Have fun, and tinker with your journal/communities. All styles are fully customizable with CSS and through the wizard.
