maybe these days I'll just ask people if they want to 'friend' me...

On a friending meme, I think it's very much okay to respond to someone's comment with something like 'Hey! You sound interesting, we share x/y/z interests, I'm subscribing' and expect a high likelihood that they will respond with something along the lines of 'Thank you! You sound interesting too, I'm subscribing back'.

n.b. as a stylistic note, you might want to consider editing your comment over at the meme to add the <strong> tags back in - they get stripped out if you do a straight copy & paste with no editing.
