Archive?

I was just wondering, are you familiar with the ljArchive? I tried setting it up for my DW journal (paranoia, thy name is me) by making a new archive and ordering it to connect to the DW server, but it keeps failing to connect. I checked the spelling and everything; it's definitely not (my) human failure. Does anyone know if there's a dwArchive or something?
(Google-fu failed. I don't come bothering you lightly, but, my paranoia. I can't bear not archiving my DW journal, especially since I'm in the process of deleting my LJ accounts.)

Edit: I don't mean importing. I mean the ljArchive which downloads your entries and comments so you can have them on your computer and offline access your journal; you can also write entries in there and it uploads them for you.
I need that for DW; I use it as a sort of backup. In case my journal accidentally gets deleted and I fail to notice until it's purged. Or in case the whole site dies. (...I mentioned my paranoia, right?)

There is an import feature where you can import your LJ entries here to DW. Organize> Import. :D

Ahhh, sorry! I see what you're talking about now! :)

I really don't know if there is one, but someone from support might have an idea. But yeah, I can't blame you for wanting to do that, I'd be the same way.

No idea. But...could you let us know when/if you find out anything? It would be very helpful. If I come across anything, I'll reply with it.

Here's their list of clients:
http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/Compatible_clients

I don't have a windows machine anymore, so i can't tell you how to make lj-sec work. My only option seems to be LJmigrate. But I'm not quite ready to try that yet.

The other clients all seem to be for posting purposes and not downloading. The biggest downside of LJmigrate is that it doesn't download comments.

It seems that many of the clients on that list aren't up to date. I'm speaking as a Mac user, so I don't know if it's the same way with Windows. Anyway, I spent a considerable amount of time downloading different clients that either couldn't connect to DW or outright crashed whenever I tried to. I ended up downloading one that supposedly didn't work with DW, but I have made multiple posts with it, and it hasn't given me any trouble. I sent a report in a support request because I didn't know where else to send it.

That's odd because it's working fine for me - I'm using Windows 7 (64 bit version and the number of small programs that don't work with that is kind of frustrating) and ljArchive version 0.97. I just checked the Alternate Server box and directed it to http://www.dreamwidth.org and it worked first time :(

What sort of error message are you getting when it fails to connect?

I know that there are some reports filed with Support that suggest it works with some people but not with others.

I just put in a suggestion for a fully-featured Dreamwidth-side backup utility, as well as making everything better to work with for clients. There's already the basic archive thing, for entries only, and then there's the comment thing, *somewhere*, and that's not particularly well documented on either side of the code fork.

Very late to the thread, but I use LJArchive on a Mac and I found it did bizarre things or failed to connect if there were any non alphanumeric characters in any of the passwords.
