contribution to those who are refugees and not "fannish" ....

filters the words "fanfic" and "fandom" from your internets.

Wow you hate fandom that much? XD

[personal profile] vangirl 2010-09-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, you may want to add 'fanart' and 'fen' and a few other terms to make it complete though. I still can see a lot of fan-related babbling slipping through.

[personal profile] vangirl 2010-09-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
There's also a lot of general fandom terms like 'ficathon', 'fanmix', 'FST' and such. 'Big Bangs' are pretty big right now and 'ships/shipping' have been big for a long while. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff though...

It seems to me that it would be better just to avoid adding people who write about fandom to your reading list if you don't want to read fannish stuff. I mean, your script would just filter out a couple of word, but not all the posts that those words appear in. You know?

I'm in fandom and fanfic, but I have no gripe about this. In fact, it's a good idea if fan stuff isn't your thing.

Words: slashfic, cracfic, there's a lot of them, recs, beta...

Hating fand0m so much you need a filter for it is a bit silly.

It's more annoyance at an unavoidable buzzing noise.

DW's fanfic origins are a defect, not a feature.

DW is a pretty fand0m-heavy site. You may be better off elsewhere.

There isn't an elsewhere.

I am pretty offended at the notion that DW's fanfic origins are a defect, because that implies that my interests and hobbies are defective. All the same, you kind of are being a dick.

I explained in my comment on the other post that I did not mean that she should leave/isn't allowed here/etc etc, but that perhaps another site would suit her better.

Well, thanks for making Dreamwidth look like a den of otaku who hate all non-fen.

Seriously, this site is for everyone, not just fans. It wasn't even really founded for fandom.

Um, that's not what I'm saying at all. Just that it's fandom heavy, and that if she dislikes fandom so much she has to have a filter to get rid of the word, that perhaps another site would suit her better.

Anyone can be on DW, of course. I just thought maybe this wasn't the site best suited for her.
rydra_wong: dreamsheep with spork and "SheepSpork" logo; no, it wouldn't make any more sense if you saw it (dreamwidth -- sheepspork)

If fandom's not your thing, you might be interested in The Giant Non-Fandom Friending Meme -- it started back in March so there's not a lot of current activity, but it would still be good for finding people you might want to subscribe to.

This won't solve the problem of comments with content that annoys you, but there's a great feature for paid accounts that lets you filter entries on your reading list based on tags :-D

Some of the journals I subscribe to I ask the filter to show me only the entries tagged "interesting thing".

Some of the journals I subscribe to I ask the filter to show me everything except entries tagged "boring and annoying thing".

It's one of the most important reasons for keeping my paid account here, I wouldn't want to do without it.

Unfortunately not everyone is good at tagging consistently, but then I don't subscribe to their journals, unless I'm pretty sure I'll like most of what they post.
