Friending Meme, Part Deux: Electric Boogaloo

Our original friending meme was getting pretty overwhelmed, so I thought now would be as good of a time as any to get a new one started. If you have the time and inclination, feel free to go back through the introductions and comments at the old post. It seems like there was a good amount of meeting and greeting going on, which was very nice to see. Hopefully it will be just as successful the second time around!

The info on this meme is optional, if you don't want people knowing your name/age or anything else, that's cool.

Age:

What people can expect to find in your journal:
Anything else:

The more people who respond to this meme, the better! If you have friends that are thinking of switching over, go ahead and pass this link on to them. If you're friends with long-time DW users who are looking for friends, invite them over! By all means, this isn't an ex-LJ-only party.

tl;dr

[personal profile] epilady 2010-09-10 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Michaela

Age: OMG I TURN 40 IN DECEMBER WHAT

Fandoms: My spouse, Kobo Abe, Georges Bataille, Freudian/Lacanian literary analyses, Nietzsche, food (especially lobster, paella, fine dining, wine/cocktails, Harney tea, and Ethiopian cuisine), Hans Bellmer, , travel, Fairuz, Nina Simone, corsets, costume design.

Seriously, I enjoy some stuff that fans get fannish about (True Blood, for example) but I would consider myself an anti-fan. I can and will rabidly geek out about the above-listed topics, however, and some (most?) of my best friends are fans!

Other Interests: Anti-racism, queer issues, femme stuff, cats, turtles, animals in general, firepits, fish tacos, obsessively reading HuffPo, beach cruisers, bicoastalism, wigs, my amazing friends, working out, long walks on the beach and candlelit dinners? Pina coladas and getting caught in the rain?

What people can expect to find in your journal: Photo-essay posts of stuff I'm doing (costume projects, illustrations, our cats and turtle, parties, moving our apartment from CA to NYC and back again every couple of years). Snarky posts about ill-advised fashion trends. Serious posts about stuff I'm thinking about. Food porn (lots of food porn). Gratuitous OHAI-I-AM-STILL-ALIVE posts because I can drop off for a couple of weeks at a go when I get really busy with RL stuff.

What people can expect NOT to find in your journal: posts about that TV show I watched last night, "thinspiration," illiteracy, sobriety, a bunch of Libertarians and Republicans (though I have a few on my flist)

Anything else:
1. I maintained a very static flist of about 400 folks over on LJ. Haven't added or dropped a friend in several years. I have a lot of bleed-over: Online friends tend to become RL friends, and many of my oldest RL friends were also on LJ (and most are headed over this way).

2. My friends are really smart. No, I mean they are REALLY SMART. Many of them are heavily engaged in political and social justice causes, or are professional tech people, or professors, or chefs, or...you get the idea. They won't hesitate to call you out if you say something dumbass on my LJ (nor will I), so if you want to say something like "I'm not racist, but..." or "hurr durr, Southerners are stupid!" on my journal, be prepared for a corrective reaming.

3. I have a wicked broad spectrum of friends, and I respect them for who and what they are. So, for example, while I am a passionate atheist, I won't tolerate people insulting religious beliefs in my LJ. Lively, impassioned conversations = good. Ad hominem attacks and name calling = banned.

4. 90% of my posts are pretty fluffy. But 10% are decidedly not. Oh, and I curse a lot.

5. This seems like a fine time to make new friends, so I'm looking forward to meeting you! *shakes hands*

Why is there no "edit post" option on DW? That typo is going to haunt my dreams for weeks.

*cries*

There is, but like on LJ, it's a perk for paid users--sorry!

It's a paid feature here as on LJ.

It's for paid accounts unfortunately, much like with LJ.

.....Really?

I've been a paid member so long, I had no idea that was the case!

*saves up for paid DW account*

Yeah, I've had a permanent paid account on LJ for awhile so it's a shock to go back to not being able to edit comments. I miss that overhere without a paid account.

Yeah, seriously!

I intend to get a paid account here, obviously. Just had no idea about that particular feature. Crazy times.

Let's do it!

I'm not ultra posty ATM because we just moved and I'm unpacking...but I did port my old LJ over if you want to peruse archived stuff.

Done! As I said above, I'm not ultra posty right now, but that's going to change right quick.
