Import from LJ

Hello,
This will come a stupid question for some of you, but it's bothering since beginning of the day...

I'm moving all my piccies from photobucket ... and will host them on a personal server and imagebam. Okay that's not the point, the point is, I will update the posts I made in my main journan which was on LJ, and then I want to reimport my entries.

My question is, will the modified entries get imported, or should I delete those entries here on DW and reimport them to be sure to get the new coding for the pictures???

I spent quite awhile experimenting with importing and re-importing when I first joined DW. I don't think it's a stupid question at all. As I recall, these were my conclusions:

1. Edited posts will overwrite originally imported posts. i.e. if you import, then edit a post, then re-import, DW should import the edits and change the post on DW accordingly. It should not import a new post and it should not be necessary to delete anything. I would experiment with this so you're comfortable. Import, edit a post, then reimport, and the post should show up as edited on DW.

2. Changes in tags made to a post after importing will NOT be re-imported IIRC (thus I worked hard to make sure everything was tagged the way I wanted it BEFORE importing).

3. New comments made since the first import WILL be imported.

4. HOWEVER, edited comments will not be imported. So if a COMMENT (not post) is imported, then edited on LJ, then re-imported, it will NOT change on DW.

I did these experiments about 18 months ago, I think, so it's possible that things might have changed since then. All of the information is still accurate, to the best of my knowledge.

I wish that DW would create a crossposting relationship with imported posts (there's been an open bug about this for a long time) but it's a complicated project, and I don't know if they ever will. It sure would be nice, though!

The post itself is about a now-fixed bug in the import process, but people have questions about it & about the import process in general & the DW staff representative responds with clarifications & explanations (which is why I bookmarked it as a useful source of info).
