Embedding on website

There is a feature on LJ that I've been using. I'm not sure what exactly it's called, but you create a style that supposedly allows you to embed your journal on your own website. I have been using the create style page to make a custom view that I can use to write up an "about me" extended info page, then link it to friends.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this is available on DW? I found the list of editable styles here: http://www.livejournal.com/styles/edit.bml

If this exists on DW, excellent, I can go ahead and give it a shot! If not, I guess fingers crossed something similar exists or will in the future. Thanks!

The link you provided was blank for me...

If I'm understanding you correctly, it's might be easier to work the other way around: Code your website to imbed the journal.

But if you know a bit of coding, you should be able to copy/paste the custom style from LJ into http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/

I haven't worked too much with DW's advanced system because their basic system is so much easier to use/manipulate that LJs was. But, if you copy/paste the raw code, this might work for you.

It's all CSS, though, so as long as you have the images and graphics loaded to a remote site (Since DW doesn't allow for image hosting). And change those links to whatever remote site you're using, it should work.

It doesn't hurt to try, so as long as you create a separate style that is easy to revert.

Ahhh, that's a ... really old link. When LJ first got started, that was the style creation system they used; it's now retroactively referred to as S1. They debuted the new style creation system (S2) in 2004; as far as I know, only S2 is supported on Dreamwidth. The problem is that in S1, "custom views" are considered separate styles; in S2, everything is united into one style - your journal page, your reading page, your calendar, your tags page, etc.

Honestly, a better workaround might be to just skip the custom style stuff and write either a regular or a "sticky" entry as your "about me," then link to it from your style/profile.

You might want to ask in News Kirsty. I've noticed that Denise is pretty great at answering questions.

Not a solution, but a workaround: you could simply set up a webpage with a frame - or a redirect with a 'back to website' button prominently on your journal.

I haven't seen anyone embed LJ for years; most people tend to use Wordpress and a crossposter (there are several that will allow you to choose which text to display and which icon to post with).

You might find it useful to ask this over in [community profile] style_system as well. They've got a lot of people who write styles and themes for DW lurking over there. :)
