What can brown do for you?

I was on LJ, but left due to people being asshats. I joined again recently, and still found asshattery... but from LJ as well as from the peeps.

I mean, the whole layout has changed, it's a pain in the ass to use now, and when I left LJ the first time, DW wasn't really that active.

Now it is though. Woo boy!

I haven't heard a lot of the recent crap, so I'd like to hear your stories.
What all has LJ done to piss you off? Is it letting stalkers go free (while you get a bad rep from the Support team who then ignores all your support tickets afterwards while stalking continues)?
The new layout? The way they're more business-oriented and not user-friendly like they used to be?

What pisses you off in particular? Why are you glad you joined DW?

In the eight years that I've had various LJ accounts I've been the victim of cyber-bullying and the Copy/Paste Fairy. I do have some wonderful friends on LJ as well as some communities that I couldn't leave, but I do think that the LJ Abuse team is a big pile of horse poo. No, actually, if they were a pile of horse poo I'd be spreading it on the Roses in my garden. That would at least be useful.

They discard every complaint you make to them, let bots and trolls roam free... if you're not Russian or a bot or [personal profile] brenden you may as well be invisible.

I'm glad to be here on DW because it actually *feels* like a community.

After the entire Facebook/LJ/Twitter sharing debacle LJ are no longer getting my money - but DW is! Both my fiance and myself have been gradually migrating because we both really like it here.

I'm so sorry to hear that you miscarried; been there done that and it's just horrible :(

He's one of the mods of [community profile] ohnotheydidnt (I think I got that right). He was somehow made a member of LJ staff and used his status to troll journals, including making fun out of a user with Aspergers. Definitely Not Funny.

Don't I know it... my son has severe Autism and I'm mildly Aspergic as well as Epileptic. Even if not for any of these things I'd never understand why people think disabilities are there to be laughed at!

I've had so many excuses when I've put complaints in. "It didn't happen on your journal" and "It was in a public forum so we can't do anything" being the favourites.

Guess what happened when people complained on my behalf about trolls posting flashing images on a gardening community? "Well she needs to complain herself or we can't do anything". That was after five LJ users sent a complaint stating that I couldn't get back on the page myself because the flashing images could land me in hospital!

What I *love* about DW is that the owners monitor comments, respond where neccessary and actually seem to care. I would hope that this sort of thing just wouldn't happen here.

If you'd like to subscribe to me on either of your journals, please do feel free :)

I've had the excuses "They were anonymous comments" and "no identifying information was displayed in those comments, so it's not a violation of the ToS." *grinds teeth*

LJ is never getting my money again after those incidents and the FB/TW/LJ crossposting stupdity...

They're not getting my money again either. I'm really glad to be over here instead.

Wow, this is the first I've heard of that. Is this public enough for you to elaborate on? I know about Brenden's trolling in the LJ news post -- in fact, I was a witness to it before the comments got deleted -- but I didn't know he also trolled journals.

I could be wrong about that then, but I'm aware that staff members *were* trolling journals, including unlocking locked posts. I sort of know the person who posted a photo of herself and a friend, on a f'locked post, only to find it magically public and an LJ staffer leaving a creepy "I see you" comment.

Was that the creepy post that LJ staffer dnewhall did? I've heard a little about that.

Yes, that incident was him, not brenden.

Yes, that name certainly rings a bell.

LJ News also started banning people who objected to the changes and the trolling from the comm rather than listen to what the people paying for their service had to say. It was at this point that I told them (on the thread where people were complaining) that, after almost eight years as a paid member, they wouldn't be getting another penny out of me.

I'm not bashing Livejournal as an entire entity, but certain individuals running the site simply should not be running any site that deals with real people. That's why I came over here.

PS: Icon love!

I don't know how much more DW would do in the cyber-bully and copy-paste fairy section than LJ would, to be honest. The TOS team has updates where they explain policies and the reasons therefore, though, if it helps to take a look behind the scenes a little.

[personal profile] capybara_cafe 2010-10-18 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
In the very least, it seems that they're about 100x more responsive then LJ, so you'd probably get SOME kind of answer to your bullying issue, even if it wasn't the one you wanted.

Your ratty icon is adorable <3
