Quickie Mod Post

I have to apologize for being such an absentee mod over the past few weeks. My laptop had a catastrophic hard drive failure (yep, I lost everything) and I'm just now getting it back up and running.

Hopefully nothing major happened while I was away (though I'm looking through the old posts now and it seems like LJ is still up to their usual shenanigans). I'm still planning on carrying out the changes that were proposed...way back there. My lovely draft of a rules/FAQ post was lost, so I'm working on a new version now. I'll get it put up ASAP.

I also might be in the market for a co-mod or two, to make sure we don't go modless again.

I think that's it for now. Thanks for continuing to be awesome!

The [site community profile] dw_news bit on advocacy might be worth reading if you haven't already: http://dw-news.dreamwidth.org/25541.html

The timing was such that the news post came after [redirect profile] transfinite's banning from assorted official LJ comms, and I know that got extensively discussed here. I don't endorse the LJ news moderators' decision, and I think that [redirect profile] transfinite still has a lot of things to say that would be constructive and helpful in LJ news, but I can also see how if I were an LJ news moderator, I could have gotten pissed off. (And yet there are other voices in the news comments, pro-LJ ones, which are even more obnoxious, but go merrily on. If I ran the universe... )

Conforming to the advocacy standards should not necessarily be a hard-and-fast rule. Certainly this community itself is a place where venting about the various points on which LJ has caused frustration/disappointment/outrage is perfectly on topic and not disruptive of people who are just trying to blog in peace, but ... something like using this comm as an organizational point for an irate bombardment of ... say LJ news ... that sounds like the sort of thing that should get discouraged. I highly recommend linking to the wiki page on DW advocacy as at least a reference in the rules.

[community profile] dwrocks is another comm you might consider allying with.

I have to agree with the DW advocacy stuff. By all means talk up DW, but let's not put the boot into LJ on LJ itself; negative campaigning never really works, despite the best efforts of politicians with more money than sense the world over.

I'm starting to use DW as my main journal and crosspost to LJ. I only ever comment on LJ if people don't have a DW account I can comment on instead. :)

I meant to add in my last comment here - I'd be willing to help mod this community if you need an extra pair of hands. :)

I've never posted here or anything, but I have a lot of free time haha and if you're thinking of adding a new moderator, I'd be up for it. I'm trying to become more active on DW, I've been mostly just lurking and reading communities.
