 In the spirit of amping up community activity here at DW, I thought it would be a good idea to have a regular community promotion post.

Any community looking for new members is welcome to promote here, whether it's new to DW or is just looking for some new faces. 

Additionally, feel free to mention any communities that you come across which seem interesting.

ETA: New DW users might be interested in the "Latest Things" page, where you can see what people have been posting about lately. Who knows? Maybe one of your interests will show up there and lead you to a community or a like-minded user!

Guess I'll kick things off by mentioning gossiptracker, which is a celebrity gossip community! Created by me, we're a community by users for users. Currently having mod elections too. Drop by, I'd love to see it become active!

I'm the mod over at thewritersnook. We're a writing prompt community in the spirit of the dozens over at Livejournal. The community is brand new, and the first set of prompts will be posted tonight or tomorrow morning, as soon as I can get them together. Characters from all fandoms are welcome, as well as original characters.

Our out-of-character community is writersooc. Feel free to drop by and say hello!

There's a meme on Dreamwidth (stolen from Twitter, ironically) of posting on Friday reccing people and comms you think are interesting and worth following. Any public posts tagged with "follow friday" or "followfriday" end up in the magic tag feed here:

discoveries

Yay. I made this today in hopes of spreading positivity and self-awareness. I'm always interested in hearing other people's realizations, introspections and discoveries. You can post negative discoveries (about character defects or things about your neighbor, lol) but you must also include a positive discovery. Its to try and find balance in our mindsets and allow other users to give advice or help others as well (for those who are prone to too much pessimism or optimism and want some balance, improving themselves).

Its still under-construction and I thought it was a nice idea. Too much negativity going around. Yeah, I wrote the bio in like 15 minutes to have something there. I'll spiffy things up soon. I figured I'd share it to get it going in the mean time. (:

So, in case you hadn't noticed, the anime & manga community on DW is quite small and what there is of it tends to gravitate towards personal journals than actual comms because of it. At least that's been my observation.

But maybe with the influx of new folks, that will change? ♥

animanga_news is the newsletter for anime & manga posts on DW.

And old_man_of_hoy maintains a masterlist of anime & manga comms on DW, so maybe that'll be a place to start? :)

And if there are any Blade of the Immortal fans, please join boti and inject life into the comm. /embarrassing self-promotion

I just opened up rptalk, a place for RP discussion and chit-chat. It would be a really great thing if Dreamwidth could get a large, dedicated roleplaying base like what LJ has.

A bunch of comms I've been enjoying lately:

fucking_meds -- because the only thing worse than being on the meds is not being on the meds. Snark, support, and embittered letters to antidepressants and painkillers.

depression -- just what it says on the tin.

cookability -- recipes and cooking tips for people who are short on spoons owing to disability or illness.

white_lotus -- an Avatar: The Last Airbender comm, created after the fail of the movie prompted a surge of new people (me included) to watch and fall for the original series.

access_fandom -- linkspam, discussions and fic about disability in canon and fandom.

lifting_heavy_things -- dumbells, barbells, kettlebells, bodyweight, machines, bags of cat litter, whatever.

disobey_gravity -- CLIMBING!

exercise_every_day -- log your exercise and cheer each other on. There are people doing a hundred push-ups, there are people doing their daily physiotherapy; it's all cool.

sun_salutation -- yoga, of all varieties.

kink_finders -- whether your kink is sexual, emotional or narrative, make a request and see if other people can find fic to match it.

poetry -- put comm on reading page; get beautiful words almost every day.

And obviously, there are dw_community_promo and the interests search for all your comm-finding needs.

Oh, cool! I don't have asthma but I know there are a bunch of people around here who do (I've certainly seen much discussion of asthma meds in fucking_meds.

hp_ssc_fest - Just wrapped up our third week of posting! Opening just one more fic that labeled rape and abuse as BDSM made me snap. SSC Fest is dedicated to restoring consent to BDSM fanworks, and is multi-pairing, multi-kink. As long as everyone involved consented to having a good time, it's welcome!

dramione - Draco/Hermione OTP. :) Fics, art, everything devoted to the pairing of Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger.

draco_het - Draco Malfoy and the women of HP. Draco slash comms are easy to find; het, not so much. Hopefully, this will fill a niche. No matter the pairing, no matter the woman, het fanworks are welcome!

Would it be ok to post a top post? I maintain fandomcalendar (to note challenges and events from any fandom) and onesongaday (to rec good music), and watch dear_you (unsent letters) and happymaking (share you happy moments) and these could definitely use more posters.
