Friending Meme, Part Deux: Electric Boogaloo
Our original friending meme was getting pretty overwhelmed, so I thought now would be as good of a time as any to get a new one started. If you have the time and inclination, feel free to go back through the introductions and comments at the old post. It seems like there was a good amount of meeting and greeting going on, which was very nice to see. Hopefully it will be just as successful the second time around!
The info on this meme is optional, if you don't want people knowing your name/age or anything else, that's cool.
The more people who respond to this meme, the better! If you have friends that are thinking of switching over, go ahead and pass this link on to them. If you're friends with long-time DW users who are looking for friends, invite them over! By all means, this isn't an ex-LJ-only party.

Name: Cross
Age: 32
Fandoms: Possibly not applicable, but I'll list some of the usual that I'm sometimes interested in: sci-fi (Old Trek, New Trek, Newer Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, BSG (the new one), Transformers (probably anything but Beast Wars); horror movies of most kinds, but not the "torture porn" sub-sub-genre; generally movies of many kinds, including historical, some romance (not romantic comedy), and various other stuff other male, Western humans usually give me weird looks for enjoying; self-identified (ex) military buff (largely limited to niche trivia, now)
Other Interests: I can and have taken an interest in all sorts of things. Computrons, but not so much now that I've spent over a decade being responsible for making them run on time. Specifically Linux, but now I'm gun-shy about even admitting it. Books, largely sci-fi and fantasy. Many things DiY: I've modded computer cases, made trivial furniture, done interesting home repair, and so forth. I don't know much about cars; sorry! I rather like learning and discussing history. What history? Human history, I suppose. I game (video games) in my spare time, but I'm not a Gamer, and I wish I had some nearby friends to pen-and-pencil with. I take the occasional interest in graphic design, but I'd never put my work up anyplace like dA. I know something about radios (as in ham, general radio usage, spectrum allocation), but until I have the money for another expensive hobby... I take a general interest in math and science, and one day I'll treat myself to a nice HP calculator and a copy of Mathematica.
What people can expect to find in your journal: Right now, a lot of posts about me, me, me. Most recently, hair-tearing experiences with Logitech and Verizon. When I run into really poor products or customer service somewhere, I'll at least toss up a warning. Any other time: whatever I'm thinking about. Sometimes work drama, sometimes a thing that puzzles me about a book I'm reading, sometimes a strange tangent about a thing I found cruising the odder and less-used footpaths of Wikipedia. Since I like helping people I consider friends, I also post on topics I consider myself at least semi-knowledgeable about: if I seem likely to know, ask.
Anything else: The two things that are largely off-limits to me-- as in I don't post about them --are religion and politics. These seem like a good way to have my hand bitten off at the shoulder, plus lose friends, so: no.
If you want to know more about me, ask away. I'm shameless, I am.

(I used to write primitive symbolic logic solvers-- simplifying for i sort of thing --for my old TI-85 (with 28KiB of RAM! w00!). I asked, and my math teacher at the time thought that was sufficiently impressive that he told me to go right ahead and use the routines on tests. I generally finished in a few minutes and read books for the rest of class. 95% on a bad day.)
(More importantly, I ported the passed-around Breakout clone to the 85. But there was some logic bug after level 4 that I couldn't find. Ah, well.)

My current HP is actually switchable between RPN and arithmetic notation. I learned RPN first.
I was a Fortran programmer for a Reliability and Risk Engineering firm for almost 15 years. Now, I teach College Biology ..... (and live on teh intarwebz)
