It may be of some interest to the people here that Diaspora, the anti-Facebook (in much the same vein that DW is an LJ fork), will open for open-source developer release by September 15 and may open for alpha testing by around October.

There is a link at the bottom of the page to a mailing list for invites.

I just put this in my Journal - after removing everything from LJ (since I still have a paid account, I'm leaving it up there... possibly forever)  I'm thinking of putting it on all my muses pages as well, but feel free to copy/paste (please comment here if you do):

This Journal is no longer in service due to Livejournal's use of me as a "commodity" and the following:

OK, folks, I must be seeing something wrong here, as this is the internet, and well, people tend to like these things.

Regular interest searching isn't showing me much in the way of highly active art communities, nor any really active steampunk communities (like [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion ) . And while I'd love to share a good chunk of my work to such places, they definitely need to exist first.

So come on folks, where are they hiding out at?

(And before anyone starts in with the "why don't you make one?" commentary, well, I'd love to, but I know my own limits- I don't have enough time to actively moderate or maintain such a beast. Not if I want to keep having time for making pretty things to post to such communities in the  first place.)

Once (if) it gets more members, I'll start posting themes. Until then, share & enjoy.

Has anyone come across any good communities for crafting or promoting fiction? Or please suggest any creative-type communities you think I'd find awesome. Thanks!

Here is a handy reference post, which I'm keeping updated, detailing just what happened and the evidence. (Need screen captures too.) Written to be linked, do feel free to spread it around.

They've kept on staff someone who used database access to stalk people on locked LJ posts. Locked LJ posts appear to be regarded as a perk of the job. It's like LJ Drama took the place over.

I keep seeing people claim it's all the evil Russians, that the US staff are decent folk. But the evidence suggests that anyone who's still working for LJ in the US should be default regarded as actively dangerous.

If you have friends still working for LJ, for God's sake find them a decent job.

I know the economy is hard and US employment law is as fucked up as the US health system. Ultimately, though, that's not enough of an excuse. Ask them what they really think of all this shit.

...and I'm just another one of those rats. *squeaks* Hope I'm not too late for the party.
I really did enjoy my stay at LJ but the latest happenings... You get the staffers barking and trolling in your face like nobody's business - what is this, kindergarten? So I bailed. It's still kinda odd to leave behind almost three years of my life's happenings I wrote about but it had to be done.
So I'm gonna poke around here and there, finding out more and enjoying myself. I see some of my friends moved here already, gonna pay them a visit :D
